They showed video recaps and the panel gave predictions on matches. During a backstage segment, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler attacked Dominik Mysterio.
Non-Title Open Challenge
Sheamus (U.S. Champion) vs. Ricochet
Sheamus announced that his open challenge is not for the United States Title. Ricochet answered the challenge. Sheamus won the match with the Brogue Kick. After the match, Sheamus said he’s issued more U.S. Open Challenges than anyone in the history of WWE. As Sheamus was talking, Ricochet attacked him and he took his coat and hat. It looks like a rematch was set up for Raw.
The opening video was narrated by Batista and it has some clips mixed in from his movie “Army of the Dead.”
WWE Raw Women’s Championship – Triple Threat Match
Rhea Ripley (Champion) vs. Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair
The match started out with Asuka and Ripley after Flair was knocked out of the ring for a couple of minutes. Flair eventually took Asuka out of the ring and then hit a fallaway slam on the floor. It was Ripley vs. Flair for a few minutes while Asuka was out on the floor.
Most of the match was fast-paced. Late in the match, Flair hit a moonsault onto both Asuka and Ripley on the floor at ringside. Moments later, the tide turned when Asuka and Ripley superplexed Flair off the top rope and into the ring. Flair turned things around when she hit a double chop block on both women and she followed up with a double Natural Selection into a pin attempt on both women at the same time.
Ripley retained the title by pinning Asuka with the Rip Tide as Flair looked on from ringside with a look of disbelief on her face.
Bobby Lashley and MVP were shown arriving backstage. They also showed The Miz and John Morrison talking about Miz’s upcoming Lumberjack match against Damian Priest. Morrison said he would persuade the lumberjacks to cooperate with The Miz. In another backstage segment, the trainer told Dominik Mysterio that he’s not cleared but Rey said he would take care of things.
WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The Dirty Dawgs (Champions) vs. Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio
Rey wrestled without a partner and he held his own but the story that was told was that he had insurmountable odds to overcome. Late in the match, Dominik walked down to the ring while holding on to his “injured” ribs. Rey was not happy about his son getting in the match while hurt.
Moments later, Rey hesitated to make the tag but Dominik tagged himself in. Dominik was able to hit some offense before tagging back out to Rey. Rey hit the 619 on Roode and Dominik hit the splash to get the win. New champions. Michael Cole said this is the first father/son team to win tag team titles.
Kayla Braxton interviewed the new champions after the match.
They showed a commercial for “Army of the Dead.” Backstage, John Morrison went to find the lumberjacks but he found zombies. I guess they thought that was clever tie-in to promote the movie.
Jimmy Uso tried to convince his brother Jey Uso to leave Roman Reigns. Roman stepped into the picture and Jimmy walked out. They cut back to Miz and Morrison. Morrison said he saw zombies but Miz told him to snap out of it. Then they showed zombies walking around backstage.
Damian Priest vs. The Miz
The zombies surrounded the ringside area as Miz and Morrison tried to run away. Miz backed up into the ring and the zombies took their spots around ringside to play the role of lumberjacks…yes, seriously.
The finish was Priest winning with his finisher as Morrison was eaten by zombies. The zombies ate The Miz after the match.
Backstage, Jimmy Uso said that the name on the locker room should say “Roman Reigns and his bitch.”
They announced the next pay-per-view will be Hell in a Cell on June 20.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
Bianca Belair (Champion) vs. Bayley
Belair got most of the offense in the first few minutes of the match but Bayley turned things around by grabbing Belair by her earring.
It was a back and forth match but Bianca got the win with a roll-up while using her hair as leverage. This was payback because Bayley tried to use the hair against Bianca. Presumably, this will set up a rematch with some sort of hair stipulation.
Backstage interview with MVP. Then they cut to McIntyre getting ready.
WWE Championship – Triple Threat Match
Bobby Lashley (Champion) vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman
The match started out with Lashley and McIntyre teaming up to take Strowman out of the match but Strowman took out both men with a diving missile off the ring apron as the match spilled to ringside. Strowman also used the steel steps on Lashley and it was legal because there are no disqualifications in Triple Threat matches.
As they made their way up to the stage, McIntyre shoved Lashley through LED boards. Sparks flew out of the boards and this allowed McIntyre to put all of his focus on Strowman. Back in the ring, McIntyre almost pinned Strowman after hitting the Claymore but Strowman kicked out. They fought at ringside and Strowman tried to do the Strowman Express but McIntyre caught him and tossed him over his head with Strowman’s head almost hitting the floor. McIntyre tried to hit the Claymore but Strowman caught him and powerbombed him through the announcer’s table.
Back in the ring, McIntyre hit the Claymore but Lashley ran back in and tossed McIntyre out of the ring. Lashley then speared and pinned Strowman to retain the title.
WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (Champion) vs. Cesaro
In the early moments of the match, Cesaro landed on his right shoulder and elbow and the announcer’s pointed out that Cesaro favored his bad arm and shoulder throughout the match.
Late in the match, Cesaro’s arm became a bigger factor. The first really close near fall happened after Cesaro kicked out after getting hit with the Superman punch. Cesaro fought back with an attempt at an uppercut but his arm was bothering him and Reigns locked in the guillotine. Cesaro powered out and then he locked in the sharpshooter. Cesaro transitioned into the crossface but Cesaro’s bad arm allowed Reigns to power out.
Reigns won the match by forcing Cesaro to pass out to the guillotine submission hold and there was no outside interference. Jey Uso walked out to attack Cesaro but then Seth Rollins’ music played and he walked out. Rollins and Reigns stood face to face before Rollins went to attack Cesaro. Rollins continued the attack on Cesaro with a steel chair outside of the ring.
Rollins finished off Cesaro with a con-chair-to on Cesaro against the steel steps and a curb stomp on the floor.
