WWE WrestleMania 42 Results: Cody Rhodes Retains WWE Title, Randy Orton Launches Post-Match Attack

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton took place at the WWE WrestleMania 42 – Night 1 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McAfee hit Cody with the microphone before the match started then a brawl broke out. Jelly Roll showed up and hit a splash off one table to drive McAfee through the table. They put MCafee on a stretcher and was taken to the back. The match then officially started. Cody had the early advantage. They played up the reported back injury and he sold it throughout the bout. Orton took over and beat down Cody for a while. They brawled outside of the ring. Orton was busted open. Rhodes did some of Orton’s signature moves such as the stomps and draping DDT. Orton with the crossrhodes for 2. Orton went for the RKO, but Rhodes reversed with a pin attempt for 2. Rhodes with an RKO to Orton for 2. Orton with an RKO for 2. Orton poked Orton in the eyes and Orton RKO’d the referee. Rhodes was now bleeding. Orton went for the low blow and Rhodes blocked it so Cody hit a low blow to Orton. Cody went for a Cody cutter, but Orton hit him with an RKO instead. McAfee ran down to the ring with a referee shirt on an counted 2 as Cody kicked out. Orton with an RKO to McAfee and this led to Cody hitting the cross rhodes to Orton for the win.

Winner: Rhodes

Post-match, Orton hit Rhodes with the title after the match then punted him in the head.
