In an exclusive for WrestlingNews.co, Emily Mae interviewed WWE star Carmelo Hayes. Watch the full interview below.
Hayes was asked if we might see him work together with his girlfriend Kelani Jordan:
“I hope so at one point. She’s on her path, I’m on my path. I want her to learn and get her ground and her footing alone. I don’t want to have any sort of influence more than I have. She’s a stud. She’s so good at everything that she does. I’m super freaking proud of her and she’s killing it and I’m killing it. Who knows? Down the road, yeah. As of right now she’s doing her thing, I’m doing my thing and that’s what’s working for us.”
Hayes revealed how he reacted when Jordan won the NXT North American Championship at Battleground:
“I was at home on the couch and I had no idea. I didn’t know so I’m sitting and watching [and] I’m thinking as she’s climbing…I’m thinking someone is gonna rip her off and she grabbed the briefcase and I jumped up. I cried. I did cry tears of joy. I’ve done a lot of cool things and I haven’t cried. That made me actually cry because I know how hard that girl works and obviously, I care a ton for that girl. I just know how hard she works and she earned that.
On the biggest difference for him working with Shawn Michaels versus Triple H:
“Shawn and Hunter are very like-minded. Shawn is still kind of like, ‘Hey, trust me and I’ll get you to where you need to be.’ Same with Hunter. I don’t think there’s many differences. I mean they’re different people so I think you could probably say that. Different styles in a way but at the same time [they have the] same goal, which I love. Shawn kind of warmed me up a little bit for Hunter and Hunter is real cool and laid back. He’s very chill and he’s easy to talk to and so is Shawn when you get in with him. It’s been great working with DX…”
On WWE’s new era:
“I’m so grateful…What a time to be here in WWE and thriving. We’re selling out every week and we’re at the top of our game. We’re going overseas every 2 or 3 weeks. It’s just been fantastic and to come in here with the ball. They gave me the ball and that’s all I could ask for is give me a shot and I’ll shoot it when I shoot (laughs).”
