WWE’s Original Plans For John Cena’s Heel Turn

WWE fans are still talking about John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber when he aligned with The Rock ahead of challenging Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes for the title at WrestleMania 41.

As previously reported, The Rock legitimately wanted Rhodes to turn heel and align with him. However, the top star thought otherwise and turned down the idea.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “the plan was that the Cena turn with Rock would have been saved for WrestleMania’s finish. The idea is that once the decision was made, during the day, to do it on this show, then obviously it had to go on last.”

It was that that top few people in WWE could be swerving their own people, and it was always going to happen the way it did. However, “many of the key people were told that it was a late change.”
