WWE is bringing back the Tribute to the Troops special, something they started in December 2003.
The original idea behind this special was to send wrestlers to American troops stationed in the Middle East and tour different bases where they would meet with soldiers.
WWE held this event for 17 straight years until 2019, when WWE decided against airing it on TV. Instead, WWE held a house show at Marine Corps Air Station New River and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in 2019.
The event had been held in Iraq and Afghanistan before moving to various bases stationed in the United States in 2010. They brought it back in 2020, taping it at SmackDown events and airing it later.
WrestleVotes reported today that WWE is taping the show at a SmackDown event on December 8th. It’s unclear when the special will air and if it will be shown on FOX as they’ve done in recent years.
This years Tribute to the Troops event will be coincide with SmackDown on December 8th from Providence, RI. Likely a post show taping as in years past.
