“F— You, You Fired Me”: Doc Gallows on How Wrestlers Should React to a WWE Release

What is the proper way for a wrestler to react after being released from their contract? According to Doc Gallows, it’s not by posting a “thank you” message on social media. Speaking on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, Gallows slammed what he calls wrestling’s “Gratitude Era” and shared his own experience with a shocking WWE release.

Released After WrestleMania

Gallows detailed the end of his second run with WWE in 2020, where he and his partner Karl Anderson were released just days after participating in a featured cinematic match at WrestleMania 36 against The Undertaker. “We came back to WWE together. We get let go in ’19… 11 days after the Undertaker WrestleMania match that we were in, we got let go,” Gallows recounted. “What the fuck.”

The Problem with the “Gratitude Era”

That experience gave him a unique perspective on how many modern wrestlers publicly react to being fired. He explained his frustration with the trend of wrestlers immediately thanking their former employer.

“I got so sick of the Gratitude Era,” Gallows stated. “‘Hey, you know you’re fired,’ and then the first thing you do is tweet, ‘I’d like to thank you.’ Fucking, fuck you. You fired me. Let’s, let’s talk shit. Let’s get some feathers ruffled.” He contrasted the two approaches, saying, “I thought the joke was so funny. I go, ‘The guys in the Attitude Era were cool, our Gratitude Era guys, not so fucking much.'”
