Young Bucks Called Triple H In 2018 To Try To Make Elite Vs New Day Match Happen

Matt Jackson has revealed that the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega actively pursued a match with the New Day to the point of getting on the phone with Triple H in 2018, making the revelation all the more poignant given Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ recent WWE departure.

Speaking on the latest episode of Being The Elite, the Young Bucks were reviewing footage alongside Kenny Omega and the New Day when Matt Jackson disclosed how close the dream match came to becoming a reality.

“We truly were trying to get a New Day, Young Bucks, Kenny match to happen. An Elite vs. New Day match actively. They said they were trying on their side. We were definitely talking to our bosses. Even to the point in 2018 when we got on the phone with Triple H and we talked to him and said, ‘Hey, we would really like to do this match.’ I don’t know if he was necessarily interested in just doing that match. I think he was more interested in pursuing us to work for him, but we talked to him about it. We were serious about doing the match and we thought we’d probably be able to do it, and unfortunately we never did,” Jackson said.

The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and the New Day have a well-documented friendship that extends beyond wrestling into gaming, with the groups appearing in each other’s social media content and competing in documented video game tournaments together.

Kingston and Woods departed WWE earlier this month after being asked to restructure their contracts and declining. Multiple AEW names, including the Young Bucks, FTR, Swerve Strickland, and Bobby Lashley, have since publicly expressed interest in working with them.
