Former WWE Superstar Zack Ryder/Matt Cardona recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio. This was Cardona’s first live interview with an outlet since leaving WWE back in April. During the interview, Cardona would discuss a number of topics from his career with the company. One of the topics discussed was where Cardona is looking to perform outside of the WWE ‘bubble’ following his release.
“Being in WWE for so long, 14 years? Listen I’m so grateful that I lasted that long” Cardona began. “I was saying that hashtag StillHere, no matter what. I was still there, but I’m not there anymore and I have the ability to work wherever I want.”
Cardona would then reveal some of the venues and promotions that he would like to perform in. “It’s just crazy. I would love…I never had the chance to wrestle in the ECW Arena. I wrestled in Japan for WWE but never really got to go there and experience the culture for like weeks at a time. There’s so many things I want to do, of course there’s AEW, Ring of Honor, IMPACT there’s so many options now.”
The former Zack Ryder would then discuss his time in the WWE ‘bubble.’ “And I think, for so long, like I was just in the WWE bubble. But now I need to just realise that I can do whatever I want. That feeling is just, oh my god, that feeling of freedom? That feeling of having that creative freedom? Just before I got released I was already making my Pro Wrestling Tees store so I knew during the call [to be released] that I was covered. I can’t wait to go out there and hustle and get my name out there. I have no problem doing the hard work, I love it. I love the hustle. It sounds cliche but I’m so excited to just do something different and try something different and hey, if I fail? It’s on me.”
With Cardona and a number of talent being released from WWE it will be interesting to see where they land once promotions begin running live events again. As the former Zack Ryder mentioned, there are a plethora of choices now in terms of companies to work for.
