Following this week’s Monday Night Raw, WWE announced that Cesaro suffered multiple contusions to the lumbar spine during his match with Sheamus.
WWE is claiming that the injury happened during the spot when Cesaro was backdropped into the ring post. Sheamus went on to defeat Cesaro and he now holds a 2-0 lead in their best of 7 match.
WWE has been announcing storyline angles via social media and WWE.com as of late and they even had the referee hold up the “X” sign for Samoa Joe’s storyline injury during NXT Takeover. Given that WWE likes to use the word “contusions” for storyline injuries and the fact that they’ve been trying to work fans and wrestling news sites lately, I will assume that this is a storyline injury for now.
