When Asuka had to vacate her NXT Women’s Championship due to injury it was a rather shocking move. By giving up her title she kept her reign and record flawless. Now she’s apparently headed to the main roster and whether she winds up on Raw or SmackDown the Women’s Division on either brand should be careful. Asuka is very dangerous and really enjoys hurting people.
On a side note, let’s hope Asuka is placed on SmackDown Live because Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon probably know how to pronounce her name. Seriously, watch the SummerSlam kickoff show carefully because Kurt Angle totally called her “Asooka.” It’s all covered in my new book: Planning The Biggest Party Of The Summer 2017, but you probably already knew that.
But the real question remains of what is going to happen to the NXT Women’s Championship now. Dave Meltzer recently said on Wrestling Observer Radio, “I do know it was talked about that the [finals of the Mae Young Classic] will be for the championship.” But those are just discussions going on because it may be still up in the air.
They could decide to set the winner of the Mae Young Classic as a #1 contender and put her against someone like Ember Moon to determine the new champion. What ever WWE does to crown a new NXT Women’s Champion they will have huge shoes to fill. It will be practically impossible to make the same kind of impression on NXT as Asuka did. But they’re still probably very willing to try.
