WrestleMania could be losing a big match this year

WWE likes to throw curveballs at us so we don’t know what’s coming. But every year since WrestleMania 30, fans have been treated to the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and for the most part, we’ve known what to expect.

Four men have pulled down the victory and claimed the oversized trophy as their own. Cesaro, Big Show, Baron Corbin, and Mojo Rawley have all used the big annual battle royal as a springboard to eventually find a push down the line. Big Show’s victory was more symbolic than anything and it’s taken longer than other to get a good push but it’s still a great start in the right direction for anyone.

Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live that WWE might be considering scrapping the idea this year to hold a female-themed match instead.

“I don’t know if they’re gonna have one this year. I’ve heard they may do a women’s battle royal this year like a Mae Young or a Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal” Alvarez said. “It may be the women getting it this year and not the guys.”

If WWE did cancel the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal it might be a good idea but the timing of Andre’s HBO documentary coming up seems a bit strange to me. Regardless, if they orchestrate a big female match for the Show Of Shows it would certainly give the women another well-deserved highlight on a show that is usually lucky to see any women’s matches that aren’t for championship gold.
