Many of you noticed that there was no mention of Brock Lesnar on the go-home edition of Monday Night Raw. If the upcoming Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns match is meant to be a number 1 contenders match for the Universal Championship then it would have made sense to mention Lesnar’s name on the show, especially since Lesnar made news over the weekend when he returned to UFC.
It looks like there’s a reason why he wasn’t mentioned on Raw. Mike Johnson of PWInsider noted that the talk in WWE is that Lesnar isn’t coming back anytime soon.
Johnson said, “There’s been some rumblings that Brock isn’t coming back anytime soon. If Brock isn’t coming back anytime soon then when the hell is he coming back? Because if he’s already planning to train to return to fight in UFC, chances are he’s not gonna care all that match about competing in pro wrestling, no matter what WWE is paying him.”
Johnson also pointed out that Lesnar was playing things safe for his match with Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 32 because he was secretly preparing for UFC 200. If he returns this year then there’s no reason not to believe that he would do the same thing when he is asked to drop the title.
Lesnar is not eligible to fight until January because that is when his USADA suspension expires. So, if UFC plans on having him fight sometime in January then you have to wonder if that will impact his status for the Royal Rumble. By that point, WWE would need to get the title on someone who will defend it because late January would be the start of WrestleMania season.
Lesnar is not listed on any upcoming WWE events at this time.
