Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett will wrestle again – but no clear date has been given.
The former bare knuckle boxer began his professional wrestling career back in 2004. In 2006 he signed a developmental deal with WWE and worked in their Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) territory. He saw the developmental territories transform to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) to the early days of NXT.
Barrett led the Nexus stable to kick off his main roster career before transitioning into a fairly successful singles run that included five Intercontinental Title reigns. In May of 2016 Barrett was released from his WWE contract upon request. He hasn’t wrestled in two years but tells Mirror Sport that he plans on getting back in the ring one day.
At this point in his career, after wrestling 14 to 15 years and suffering injuries, Barrett says he’s tired and getting old. He did promise that one day he’ll get back in the ring, and maybe it’d be for World of Sport Wrestling:
“I’m on a bit of a career sabbatical at the moment. I wrestled for 14 or 15 years,” said Bennett. “I’ve got a bunch of injuries, I’m tired, I’m getting old, I’m getting some grey hair now.
“I promise you Morgan that at some point I will be back in the ring and maybe that will take place in WOS. We’ll have to see.”
