Shinsuke Nakamura doesn’t rule out leaving WWE in a few months

Sky Sports recently interviewed Shinsuke Nakamura as part of the media hype for Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view in Brooklyn. He was asked about moving his family to the United States and rumors about his stay in the country being short-term.

Nakamura said, “Moving to the U.S. is a big decision for my family…a long-term thing” He added, “Rumors say that Shinsuke Nakamura’s contract [will] expire. New Japan didn’t make contact with me.”

Nakamura was asked if he is looking forward to more years in WWE. He said “probably” but then made a money hand gesture that indicated that his future depends on WWE’s money offer.

It was reported a few weeks ago by Dave Meltzer that his WWE contract is up in a few months and that New Japan Pro Wrestling would love to have him back. In late June, Meltzer said the following about Nakamura, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: “I don’t anticipate anyone going back there [but] you just don’t know how people feel and what people want out of life.”

As we’ve said here several times on the site, 2019 will be an interesting year for the wrestling business as WWE hopes to lock in top talent and Ring Of Honor attempts to sell out bigger buildings and New Japan Pro Wrestling continues their expansion around the world. If WWE locks in names like Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, you can bet that NJPW would want to reach out to a top star like Nakamura.
