John Cena is no longer the top merchandise seller in WWE.
The 16-time WWE World Champion is currently in China filming a movie with Jackie Chan. In fact, Cena has been so invested in filming Project X that he missed his first SummerSlam pay-per-view in 15 years. During his time away, it looks like Cena has also lost his spot as the top merchandise seller for WWE, per a report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
WON reports that Roman Reigns has overtaken that spot from “The Leader Of The Cenation.” Reigns comes off a Universal Title victory over Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. He finally defeated Brock Lesnar for the World Title, in a rivalry that had been going on for three years. Despite the negative reaction he receives from the crowd, his merchandise sales will be more than enough proof for WWE brass to maintain the course with “The Big Dog” as their top guy.
Cena faced similar hurdles throughout his tenure as WWE’s top dog. He received, and continues to receive, negative reactions from the WWE Universe – but continues to be a big draw with children. With Reigns recently re-aligning with The Shield on Raw this past Monday, things are looking very bright for the Universal Champion at the moment.
