WWE issues statement on passing of former WrestleMania guest ring announcer Burt Reynolds

82-year-old actor Burt Reynolds – famous for his lead roles in various films such as Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandit and Boogie Nights – passed away today (Thurs. September 6, 2018).

Reynolds was a guest ring announcer at WrestleMania 10 back in 1994 for the main event match-up between Bret Hart and Yokozuna for the WWE Championship. He also starred in the film “The Longest Yard” opposite several WWE alumni such as Kevin Nash, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldberg and The Great Khali.

WWE issued the following statement after the announcement of Reynolds’ passing today:

“WWE is saddened to learn that Academy Award-nominated actor and Hollywood icon Burt Reynolds has passed away at the age of 82.

“The star of more than 50 feature films, including “The Longest Yard,” “Smokey and the Bandit,” “The Cannonball Run” and “Boogie Nights” (for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor), Reynolds was a special celebrity guest at WrestleMania X, serving as ring announcer for the main event WWE Championship Match pitting Bret Hart against Yokozuna.

“WWE extends its condolences to Reynolds’ family, friends and fans.”
