Top WWE NXT star was supposed to wrestle John Cena at WrestleMania

As many of you know, the plan for WrestleMania is for the women to take center stage in the main event. Click here for more on that story. The other big story coming out this week is about the plans for John Cena to wrestle Lars Sullivan at WrestleMania.

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sullivan was supposed to debut this week on Monday Night Raw but, due to what was believed to be an anxiety attack, he either didn’t show up at the arena or he did and then left the building.

WWE management is a lot more understanding of mental health issues due to their experience with Mauro Ranallo so things were smoothed over with Sullivan. Then he was booked for a dark match in Jacksonville before SmackDown Live but he wasn’t there and he apparently flew back home to Colorado.

There is not much else known and there’s no word on if the match is still planned. Sullivan was supposed to get a monster push. WWE sources said that there was nothing confirmed on what the finish would have been for his match with Cena but given that Cena will be on a very limited schedule due to movie commitments, it would be logical to assume that Sullivan would have likely beat Cena at Mania.

The match could still be on the table because there were hints and signs pointing towards the Sullivan/Cena angle getting started at the Royal Rumble. It could be that WWE will go forward with plans if they think they can work with Sullivan or they could scrap it if they feel that there’s a risk to give him that big of a push.
