WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy reflected on how at one point in time he was told by WWE officials that he wasn’t in line for a move from NXT to the 205 Live brand.
The former NXT Tag Team Champion was given the chance to compete on 205 Live, which is WWE’s cruiserweight show that airs on their streaming service, WWE Network, in 2018.
2018 was a series of highlight reels for Murphy that was capped off once he beat Cedric Alexander at WWE Super Show-Down in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
During a recent appearance Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, Murphy reflected on he got into shape and eventually made the move to 205 Live.
“I asked for 205 like a year before it happened,” Murphy revealed. “They just said no. They said, ‘Nah, there’s no spots there’. And I was like, ‘Okay’. Then I tried it again and I had this whole idea, and I remember watching a TakeOver, and I remember watching it and I got so mad watching it, because I think it was a year after we lost the titles. And it was at the Barclays Center for TakeOver, and I remember watching it, and I just got so mad. And I turned the TV off and said, ‘Why aren’t I on that? I was on it last year. I was the tag team champion last year. Now, I can’t do anything. Nothing’s good enough.’
After losing weight and getting into great shape in order to make the weight limit for the show, WWE officials gave him a chance and the rest was history.
