WWE was considering turning someone heel to set up WrestleMania match with Ronda Rousey

As most of you know by now, Vince McMahon has pulled Becky Lynch from the Raw Women’s Championship match with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania. Charlotte Flair will face Rousey and it looks like Lynch will be added to the match again sometime in the next few weeks to make it a Triple Threat Match.

However, several months ago, WWE was considering a different person for the match. On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer detailed how things have evolved over the last several months and he noted that Natalya was considered to turn heel and that would have led to a match with Rousey but Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart’s passing caused Vince McMahon to change plans.

“It was originally Charlotte, then it was gonna be Natalya,” Meltzer said. “Then Jim Neidhart died and they felt Natalya couldn’t go heel. As you could imagine, how much that probably disappointed her. Then it was Charlotte again. Then it became Becky and then it became the three-way. I think it could change again but I don’t think it will.”

In a sense, Lynch caught a break with her injury last November because that forced WWE to cancel plans for her match with Rousey at Survivor Series. She got hot so that prompted McMahon to make the decision insert her into the WrestleMania main event plans with Rousey and Flair.

Meltzer said he was told two weeks ago that Vince McMahon is set on the current direction. Anything is possible in WWE but the three-way is most likely going to happen.
