It looks like a big twist is coming for the Alexa Bliss/Nikki Cross storyline. Anyone who is paying attention can see that Bliss is not really Cross’ friend and it certainly looks like Bliss will be turning on her friend in the near future.
On Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez talked about the storyline and Meltzer confirmed that there are big plans in the works.
“The storyline is that Nikki deserves [the title shot]. The whole thing is to make Nikki into a bigtime babyface,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. “That’s the goal here [is for her] to feud with Alexa. Essentially, Nikki is in the role that Bayley should have been in that they completely botched. They couldn’t go back to Bayley with it because it’s just too far gone and Bayley has been there for too long to go back to that role. Bayley is in her new role that she graduated into and Nikki Cross is in that original role.”
Nikki is basically playing the naive babyface character that has been done many times in the past in wrestling. If all works out according to plan, then fans will treat Nikki as a big-time babyface as she moves into a feud with her former best friend.
Bliss is scheduled to challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules on Sunday, July 14 so it’s quite possible that the big angle to break up Bliss and Cross will happen at that show or on Raw on the night after.
In a backstage segment, Bliss had no comment when she was asked about Cross’ success and fans hoping to see Cross challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
