MJF suffered a “severe elbow injury” at AEW Fight For The Fallen

MJF pulled out of an appearance for Inspire Pro Wrestling on Sunday due to what is described to be a “severe elbow injury” suffered at AEW Fight For The Fallen on Saturday night.

The promotion issued the following statement on their social media accounts:

“AS THE ADDAGE GOES, “CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE.”

At approximately 4:07 this morning, INSPIRE PRO was delivered the unfortunate news that PURE PRESTIGE CHAMPION MAXWELL JACOB FRIEDMAN sustained a severe elbow injury at last night’s FIGHT FOR THE FALLEN event. With MJF scheduled to appear at next week’s TRIPLEMANIA, the decision was made to pull him from tonight’s event to prevent any further injury. THEREFORE, MJF will NOT be defending his PURE PRESTIGE CHAMPIONSHIP tonight against RICKY STARKS.

With MJF soon to become exclusive to AEW, the opportunity to reschedule the match is not possible. Therefore, MJF and INSPIRE have come to a mutual agreement to VACATE the PURE PRESTIGE TITLE.

TONIGHT’S MAIN EVENT will STILL determine who the rightful PURE PRESTIGE CHAMPION WILL BE. RICKY STARKS will wrestle for the vacant title against a competitor TO BE ANNOUNCED at our event. INSPIRE PRO is working diligently to come up with a suitable and logical replacement in the meantime.

INSPIRE PRO OFFICIALS apologize for the change, but it was out of our hands, unfortunately. NEVERTHELESS, we’ll still be delivering one hell of a card tonight with a few surprises along the way, and there will be a NEW PURE PRESTIGE CHAMPION at the end of the night. BE THERE TO SEE WHO WILL FACE RICKY STARKS to determine the NEW CHAMPION!”

MJF teamed with Sammy Guevara and Shawn Spears against Darby Allin, Joey Janella and Shawn Spears on Saturday night at Fight For The Fallen.

The injury appeared to happen during the final seconds of the match as you can see MJF talking to the referee when the match was over. You could also see the referee relay a message from MJF to Spears. Hopefully, the injury is not serious enough to keep him out of action for ALL OUT in Chicago next month.
