As noted earlier, Mickie James underwent knee surgery and she’ll be out of action for several months, likely until early 2020. James suffered the injury on the June 1st live event in Waco, TX during a match with Carmella.
Thankfully, according to an update from her husband Nick Aldis, the surgery was a success and she is now on the road to recovery. Aldis said, “UPDATE: Surgery was a complete success. I’m sure when she’s feeling up to it she’ll share more. Thank you all!”
James later tweeted and thanked everyone for prayers and well wishes but she also hinted that she might not return to the ring.
James wrote, “Thank you all for your love, prayers, and well wishes. I am grateful! I’ll be just fine… if I come back… I’m coming back bionic!”

James is currently under a three-year contract. She was brought back for a one-off appearance at NXT Takeover in November 2016 and her return was well-received so she was offered a contract for a full-time role on the main roster.
That contract would expire in December of this year. I would assume that WWE would want to keep her on board so we’ll see what happens with her in the next few months.
If WWE chooses to freeze her contract due to inactivity, then that would mean that her current deal would expire sometime in the summer of 2020.
