Cody Rhodes did a fan Q&A on Twitter on Friday night and one of his answers to a question about CM Punk raised some eyebrows.
Rhodes was asked if he would ask Punk to sign an AEW contract in person. Earlier this week, Punk told ESPN that he received an offer from AEW but it was via text message.
Rhodes said on Twitter that he thought Punk was misquoted because someone from AEW met with Punk in person. Rhodes said that he did text Punk when they were not able to connect by phone but a contracted offer was not presented via text.
Rhodes put over Punk as a great guy and said that the door is open but added that he wouldn’t be surprised if Punk went back to WWE.
Of course, never say never in wrestling but no one expects Punk to go back to WWE especially with Triple H still there so that line was probably meant as a joke.
Rhodes could be trolling with his tweet or everything (or most) of what he said could be genuine. One thing is for sure…the tweet will fuel more speculation for fans that believe Punk will make a surprise appearance at All Out in Chicago.
If Punk has signed a deal or if he signs a deal sometime before All Out, you can bet it will be a closely guarded secret so don’t expect any leaks until he shows up at All Out…if he does at all.

I think he was misquoted. I know 1 of us had met with him in person, and yes I texted him plenty when we couldn’t connect on the actual phone, but not a contracted offer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went back to wwe. Regardless, great wrestler & guy. Door is open if he wants it https://t.co/3ityuurGGy
