Rey Mysterio almost unmasked and retired on WWE Monday Night Raw

During a backstage interview on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Rey Mysterio talked about his recent losses to Andrade. He also said that his injuries have caught up to him.

Mysterio says that it is time for him to hang up his mask and he will let the new generation of WWE Superstars make their way.

His son Dominick stepped in just before Mysterio was about to take off his mask. Dominick urged his dad to stay in WWE and not to retire because he wants to make his dad proud.

As noted last week, Dominick Gutierrez has been training to eventually make his in-ring debut. WWE does not feel that he is ready yet to go on the road full-time but they are hoping that he will be a full-time member of the roster by 2020,

It looks like the retirement teases with Mysterio are meant to kickstart his son’s WWE career and to further the angle with Andrade. All signs point to a hair vs. mask match between Andrade and Mysterio at some point.

For what it’s worth, Rey trademark the name “Principe Mysterio” (Prince Mysterio) last year so that might be the name his son eventually uses.
