On Thursday’s WWE investor conference call, Vince McMahon said they were in talks with major streaming outlets and he indicated that it’s possible that some WWE Network content could move elsewhere.
UFC pay-per-view rights were purchased by ESPN+ and Bellator pay-per-view rights were purchased by DAZN and now it looks like WWE wants to cash in on the big money being paid for sports rights to major events.
Sporting News writer Steve Muehlhausen is reporting that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has expressed interest in purchasing WWE streaming rights for major WWE events.
On Friday, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Amazon was not interested. However, Meltzer later reported that CAA (Creative Artists Agency representing WWE) went to Amazon and not the other way around but WWE is shopping around.
The other rumored streaming platform that is said to be interested is the Peacock Network being launched by NBCUniversal in a couple of months.
If WWE strikes a deal with a streaming provider, it could mean that big shows like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble will be moved off the WWE Network.
