WWE Hall of Famer and co-host of Busted Open Radio Mark Henry recently commented on the return of John Cena to WWE. The 16-time World Champion Cena made his return to WWE television on SmackDown this past week; and it was confirmed that Cena would be facing ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania in Tampa.
“Man, I’m so used to hearing ‘Cena Sucks'” Henry began jokingly. Going on into the adulation that John Cena received on Friday, Henry stated “that was like unfathomable for me. I could not believe the reaction from the crowd last night. I just, like, I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder. Because he got more love that first minute and a half…he couldn’t even talk. The crowd was like constant. It was a constant roar. And every time he got ready to say something, they amped up.”
Henry would also mention how Cena himself probably wasn’t expecting such a positive reaction from the crowd in Boston.
Crowd Turns 180 on John Cena?
Ironically, John Cena would cut a promo on SmackDown where he noted that this year’s WrestleMania should be reserved for the current generation of WWE Superstars. This would cause the crowd to boo. Thus showing how desperate they were for the former WWE Champion to wrestle in Tampa. Later in the night Goldberg; the new WWE Champion, would appear and get booed out of the building by the Boston fans. Goldberg will be facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania in April, another Superstar who garners a polarising reaction from the crowd at times.
Henry would also discuss on the show how John Cena first appeared back in OVW; and how he moved into the ‘Thugonomics’ character that essentially saved his WWE career. Henry would also mention how was ‘confident’ early in his career in WWE, and how this helped him get to the top of the card.
