As previously noted, Vince McMahon has backed away from at least two of Paul Heyman-backed wrestlers – Ricochet and Cedric Alexander.
Now it looks like McMahon is uncertain about the push to turn Shayna Baszler into one of the top heels on the Raw brand.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that there is uncertainty on McMahon’s feelings about Shayna Baszler, specifically the match she had with Kairi Sane on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Meltzer noted that McMahon felt that the Baszler vs. Sane match did not get the desired reaction and he felt that Baszler was not coming off like a WrestleMania headliner. Baszler is one of the people who is getting a push because of Paul Heyman, as he sees her as someone who can be a monster heel.
Baszler will be in the Women’s Elimination Chamber match on Sunday that will determine the number 1 contender for Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. Baszler vs. Lynch is the scheduled match but if McMahon changes his mind and Baszler does not win on Sunday, then it would be the second time he has changed his mind on her.
Meltzer said that Baszler was the original pick to win the Women’s Royal Rumble match only for McMahon to change it to Charlotte Flair just one week before the show.
If you look at who is in the match, Baszler is the most credible woman involved. It’s worth noting that there was a very interesting name at WWE Headquarters earlier today. Click here for the news on who was there.
