Booker T gives high praise to Baron Corbin and doubles down on not wanting to see men fighting women

This week on Booker T’s “Hall Of Fame” podcast, he gave his thoughts on some of the big wrestling news stories from the last several days.

Here are a couple of highlights from the podcast:

Booker T gave his thoughts on the King of the Ring tournament:  “Baron Corbin is doing a good job.  I give Baron a lot of props.  One thing he needs is a queen to rule.  That’s the only thing Baron Corbin really needs.  He’s taken that role and I tell you, he’s done a better job than I can imagine anybody else in the company doing right now.  I do think the King of the Ring tournament is something that’s, perhaps should be, put in the archives.  It was great.  It had a great run.  It had a great run for so many years.  It did a whole lot for a lot of guy’s careers as well.  King Booker, it worked out for me because I was relentless in making it work out.  I was not going to end my career and have one last memory of people remembering Booker T in a crown and a robe and acting stupid.  I didn’t want to leave that impression on people.  I went out of my way to make King Booker something I thought,as a fan sitting outside the ring watching it, would want to see as a wrestling fan.  It took a whole lot of creativity to be able to find that.  A lot of guys, not saying they aren’t great wrestlers or anything today, it is hard to find that kind of creativity and get that much time.  Just for instance, King Booker’s entrance was longer than a lot of guy’s matches these days.  To be able to pull something off like that, there again, I give myself a lot of credit for being able to do that and leave that memory toward a King of the Ring tournament.  When you remember or think about King of the Ring, you think about King Booker first.  That’s the memory I wanted to leave, but it could have easily gone the other way.  That’s why I say the King of the Ring tournament should be put in the archives and saved for a special occasion when that special talent comes along that we should put in that role.”

Booker T thinks it’s ridiculous for one championship covering both men and women:  “It’s ridiculous.  It’s nonsensical.  Ok, now Charlotte Flair goes and beats Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre and ruins these guy’s career forever.  Ok, she has to go against Braun Strowman for the title.  This is not Wonder Woman.  This is going out and trying to make people believe that they are watching a simulated fight between two people, two equals.  There again, a man fighting a woman. Think about it like this:  Your sister has a boyfriend and her boyfriend beat the hell out of her.  What do you say?  She should have fought back harder?  It’s ridiculous.  It makes no sense.  If some man put their hands on my mom or my sister, it should be a problem.  If anybody out there thinks it’s ok for a man to fight a woman and it’s a fair fight, it’s a problem.  I need people to think about it in that sense and maybe you will take a step back.  Can you imagine Claressa Shields fighting Deontay Wilder?  If you don’t understand that, then I’ve wasted my time.”
