Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that former WWE Superstar Wade Barrett is returning to WWE TV this week.
Barrett (Stu Bennett) will join the NXT announce team this Wednesday night. PWS notes that this is a one-shot deal for him since he has not signed a full-time deal with the company.
Barrett left WWE in 2016 to pursue other ventures outside of professional wrestling. This year, he has been providing commentary for Billy Corgan’s NWA. In June, Barrett said during an interview that he was open to offers from wrestling companies, including WWE and AEW.
Although the NXT gig is a one-time thing, perhaps this will open the doors for him to do more with WWE. It looks like this one-time appearance came together because someone was needed to fill in for Mauro Ranallo, who was not part of the TakeOver: XXX broadcast because he was back home in Canada to tend to a family issue.
