Original plans for key segments on Monday’s WWE Raw

WWE presented a special edition of Raw on Monday night as it was billed as Legends Night with various former wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair appearing.

PWinsider.com reports that the original plan for the opening segment was supposed to see Hogan do a promo in the ring. Plans changed with Hogan doing a cold open backstage promo. Speaking of Flair and Hogan, it was noted that they sat in on the production meeting for the show.

The closing segment of the show saw WE Champion Drew McIntyre retain his title over Keith Lee. After the match, Goldberg made his return to confront and challenge McIntyre to a title match at Royal Rumble.

The original plan for the closing segment called for Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy to take place. However, the decision was made late in the day to close with McIntyre vs. Lee in order to do the angle with Goldberg.

Once that decision was made, WWE had plans for McIntyre to do a promo about the legends in the final segment to set up Goldberg’s entrance. When WWE had timing issues and ran late, they decided to cut McIntyre’s promo and had Goldberg come out quicker than originally planned.

Finally, Goldberg was hidden backstage until he made his entrance and was not listed in the script for last night’s show.
