Serena Deeb on her WWE departure: it was probably the best thing that ever happened to me

Serena Deeb made an appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast today to talk about a wide range of topics including her decision to join AEW.

This came after she departed from WWE as the company let go of wrestlers, staff, and employees due to budget cuts related to the COVID-19 pandemic last April.

Deeb joined the company in 2017 to become a coach at the Performance Center. She also worked that year’s Mae Young Classic tournament. Deeb made her promotional debut on the September 2nd episode of Dynamite where she lost to then-NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa.

Deeb explained in this interview that she views the departure as a positive thing.

“It was probably the best thing that ever happened to me, losing my job, because [AEW] probably would not be happening right now. I don’t even look back on that with any type of negative feelings or anything; it is purely positive for me.”

Deeb also talked about the power of yoga and positive thinking, learning from Rip Rogers and returning to in-ring performance after believing that part of her career to be over. Plus, she shares her Mt. Rushmore of wrestling and her love of coaching.

We will have a full recap of the interview on the site shortly. You can listen to the entire interview by clicking on the player below:
