Bray Wyatt has been released by WWE. A statement issued by WWE reads: “WWE has come to terms on the release of Bray Wyatt. We wish him the best in all his future endeavors.”
Wyatt, real name Windham Rotunda, first signed with the company under their developmental system in 2009 and debuted on TV during the first incarnation of NXT as Husky Harris.
He was later moved to the main roster as part of the Nexus faction and then sent back to developmental.
In 2012, he was repackaged as Bray Wyatt, a character that was inspired by 90s WWE star Waylon Mercy and he took off on the main roster with plans for him to get a mega push. However, he ended up getting start and stop pushes and many would argue that he never reached his potential because he was stifled by the creative direction.
Wyatt was repackaged again in 2019 when the Firefly Fun House was introduced but again, the start and stop pushes and time away from the ring stifled his push. Wyatt was last seen losing to Randy Orton at WrestleMania and he was broken away from Alexa Bliss, who continues to do a spinoff of the Wyatt character to this day.
Given that Wyatt is a big name and has many friends in AEW, one has to assume that he could be appearing on TNT in the near future.
