Jon Moxley will have to wait longer to wrestle a big NJPW star that he had hoped to share the ring with.
A few weeks ago on AEW Dynamite, the former World Heavyweight Champion called out Hiroshi Tanahashi, with speculation being that it would lead to a match between them at All Out.
It was previously reported that Moxley had requested a match for him against a top NJPW star at All Out, which AEW President Tony Khan approved. It has yet to be confirmed whether it was Tanahashi who Moxley wanted to wrestle, but all signs point to Tanahashi.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the match will no longer be taking place any time soon as things have changed on the NJPW side of things.
Meltzer added, “most likely the idea would be for a Moxley win and right now New Japan didn’t want Tanahashi to lose based on whatever it is they have planned for the U.S. Title.”
If this match was indeed supposed to take place at All Out then AEW just has a few weeks to line up an opponent for Moxley at the show, which takes place on September 5th.
