Finn Balor pitched going to WWE NXT UK before SmackDown return

Finn Balor originally wanted to go to WWE NXT UK after wrapping up his latest run in NXT, but WWE thought differently.

In late 2019, the decision was made to have Balor make a return to NXT. He managed to work his way up to the main event scene and became the NXT Champion for a second time.

Balor finished up with NXT in May then made his return to SmackDown in July. While speaking with BT Sports, Balor shared the pitch to NXT UK.

“The surprise appearance at NXT UK about two years ago was something I was really excited about and it wasn’t going to be a one-off, it was going to be more of a regular thing to work towards a match with WALTER. It got taken away from us by the pandemic. It’s still something I am still super invested in. Believe it or not, before I returned to SmackDown, I could feel the run in NXT kind of coming to an end and kinda exhausted all of the resources there. I actually pitched the idea of moving to NXT UK, and obviously, that might have been a bold move and maybe a bold pitch.

He said he felt like he could challenge himself, but also the wrestlers on the brand. He wanted to help the brand like he did with NXT.

“I felt like it was a win-win for all of us, but the office had a different opinion about that and they wanted me on SmackDown.”

Balor will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title this Friday night on SmackDown. You can watch the entire clip by clicking on the player below:
