WWE officially updates WALTER’s new name

Following his win over Roderick Strong in the main event of this week’s WWE NXT 2.0, WALTER said that the winner of the match is “Gunther,” an indication of his new name. A brawl broke out to close the show.

WWE had recently filed a trademark for the name “Gunther Stark,” and once it was realized after a Google search that showed there was a person who had the same name who severed as a Nazi Germany military commander during World War II, WWE got backlash from fans on social media.

WWE’s website has updated WALTER’s profile and he is now going by the Gunther name. Although not confirmed, it appears WWE saw the backlash and decided to just go with the Gunther name instead of their original plan for the full name.

WWE has yet to file a new trademark for just the Gunther name, but they’re likely to do so in the coming weeks. As previously reported, Gunther finished up with NXT UK last week and is full-time with NXT.
