The pairing of Randy Orton and Matt Riddle as the RK-Bro tag team has been one of the highlights of Monday Night Raw for months, but WWE has been planning for months.
WrestleVotes reported today that WWE had plans for a singles match between Orton and Riddle at SummerSlam in August. However, plans changed and the decision was made to hold off until WrestleMania 38 in Dallas for the match to take place.
The report added only a handful of creative members want to split them with the idea that if the bout should happen then the WWE Title should be on the line.
WWE confirmed earlier today that WWE Champion Bobby Lashley will defend the title against five other stars inside the Elimination Chamber structure at next month’s event so that could be a way for WWE to put the title on Riddle or Orton while also protecting Lashley. Also, Riddle was originally planned to win the Men’s Royal Rumble match before WWE changed plans with Brock Lesnar going over. It should be noted that WWE reportedly has yet to figure out plans for the WWE Title at WrestleMania.
WWE had plans since the pairing began last spring for Riddle vs Randy Orton @ SummerSlam, which didn’t happen. Plan was to hold off til Mania. I’m told now only a handful of creative members want to spilt them, w/ the idea that if the match happens, it should be for the WWE title
