Backstage news on WWE Royal Rumble pitch for Mustafa Ali

Mustafa Ali stated on Twitter the day of this year’s WWE Royal Rumble that he didn’t want to be in the Men’s Royal Rumble match before doubling down on wanting his release from the company that he asked for a few weeks before. This indicated that there was a pitch made for him to work the bout.

As previously reported, WWE  doesn’t intend to grant him his release despite him not being at the show since he had an argument with Vince McMahon over creative direction. WWE has used the term “value” as the reasoning behind keeping Ali under contract.

Fightful Select reported today there are no working plans in creative for Ali, although that could change at any moment. It was added that Ali still has “well over a year, at least” on his WWE deal. There was not a specific expiration date given on the deal.

Regarding Ali’s tweet about the Royal Rumble, the report stated they were told: “at least one talent pitched an idea for Mustafa Ali to eliminate them, and were posed with the question if Ali would even be interested.” Obviously, based on his tweet, Ali wasn’t interested.
