FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wilder) had been playing up the idea that their AEW deal expired sometime this month.
They had signed with AEW in 2020 after leaving WWE while betting on themselves. Since that decision, FTR has been on an incredible run as they’ve held gold in AEW, ROH, AAA, and NJPW.
Harwood previously talked up the idea of them working on the independent scene instead of signing a new deal with AEW. In February, he shared a photo on Instagram that in the bottom left corner had a piece of paper that looked like it had the WWE logo on it, indicating he was looking over a contract with the company.
On Wednesday’s Dynamite, FTR beat The Gunns for the World Tag Team Titles with the stipulation being that if FTR had lost, then they would have to leave the company.
In a post on Twitter, Harwood indicated that FTR never intended to return to WWE.
“GIVE US THE BELTS OR WE’RE GOING BACK TO WWE!” Definitely not “That schedule keeps me away from my wife and daughter too much & AEW will allow us to give back to wrestling.”
