The asking price for WWE has been leaked in a report today from Bloomberg.
The outlet reports that McMahon wants to sell for as much as $9 billion and offers have already been made. Bloomberg noted that the asking price is 37% greater than the $6.5 million market value of the company.
At this point, we don’t know who the frontrunner is to buy the company but it is believed that UFC’s parent company Endeavor Group Holdings, Inc., and the Saudi Arabia government would be the most interested but Endeavor would need help from a third party because as Bloomberg noted, “it’s market capitalization of $10.4 billion is only a bit more than what McMahon wants.”
Comcast has also been rumored but CNBC’s Nick Faber told Nick Khan this month that they were unlikely to be interested in buying WWE. Khan has stated that they expect to sell this year and the hope is to sell before they begin serious discussions for their next TV/streaming deal.
The belief within the company is that they can get the sale done within the next few months. McMahon has been back at WWE Headquarters since last month and has been working on getting the sale done.
CNBC’s David Faber told Nick Khan that he has heard that Comcast buying WWE is “probably not” happening.
