Backstage News on WWE’s Plans for Gable Steveson

Gable Steveson is an interesting name on the WWE roster, as plans have changed for him multiple times throughout his tenure with the company.

His tenure

Steveson signed a multi-year contract with WWE in 2021, and WWE had plans for him to be featured on Raw after WrestleMania 38, with Triple H pushing to wrestle Stevson at the show before having medical issues. Steveson also underwent a heart procedure.

Gable had been looking to return to amateur wrestling and potentially compete in the 2024 Olympics. However, University of Minnesota coach Brandon Eggum recently updated Steveson’s status, stating Steveson won’t be competing for them this season as he shifts his focus to WWE.

Regarding Steveson’s in-ring status, he has worked a handful of live events in NXT and dark matches at recent SmackDown events. His only TV match was a no-contest with Baron Corbin at an NXT PLE last year.

Plans

Pwinsider reports that Steveson working recent SmackDown dark matches is not related to any plans to have him work the Royal Rumble match this Saturday at the PLE. It was added that the young prospect is not in the creative mix for the event, but rather, WWE wants him to have more reps in front of live crowds.

It’s still unclear whether he will go back to NXT before he makes his official main roster TV debut.
