WWE star recently made history

WWE is off to a strong start to 2024 as they’ve already hosted the Day 1 edition of Raw, the New Year’s Evil special of NXT, and the New Year’s Resolution with NXT last week. They also had The Rock made a surprise appearance on the first episode of Raw of 2024.

The moment

History was made on Tuesday’s episode of NXT as Oba Femi beat Dragon Lee to win the North American Title in just his sixth TV match thus far in his career after winning the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament at New Year’s Evil last week. This tournament win allowed him to get the title bout. The finish saw Femi hit Lee with his pop-up powerbomb finisher.

In the tournament, he went over Myles Borne and Tavion Heights in the first and second rounds before beating Riley Osbourne in the finals.

Lee was set to team up with Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro of the LWO to take on the No Quarter Catch Club at last week’s NXT New Year’s Evil special but had to be pulled from the bout and replaced by Carlito due to visa issues.

History

Femi made history in two ways with the title win, as he is the first athlete who had been signed through WWE’s Next In Line program to win a championship in the company.

Femi also made history by being the youngest NXT North American Champion in history at 22 years old. The previous record was held by The Velveteen Dream, who won the title in 2019 at 23 years old.
