Months after CM Punk got into a backstage brawl with The Elite and ripped several wrestlers (Hangman Page, Colt Cabana & The Young Bucks) at the AEW All Out post-event press conference, all signs point to the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion returning to the promotion.
There are tentative plans in place for it to happen this summer. For more on when he’s expected to return, click here. However, AEW President Tony Khan still has backstage issues that have yet to be settled with Punk and others before his return.
As previously reported, AEW might have an idea to ease the tension among those who don’t like Punk and vice versa by putting him on the reported Saturday show that is believed to premiere this summer.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted there is a planned meeting with Khan, Punk, Jericho, and more. Interestingly enough, The Elite is not mentioned to be in the meeting.
“There is a meeting soon and involves Chris Jericho, Tony Khan, CM Punk, FTR, and there may be others in there as well. That’s coming up. I guess the idea is to resolve everything or attempt to resolve everything,” Meltzer stated.
Meltzer noted that not everyone in AEW wants to be quiet about their opinion of CM Punk.
“It’s going to be interesting. Tony Khan wants Punk back, to be the star of the Saturday show and it’s probably…I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen,” Meltzer added.
