Charlotte Flair addresses why she was absent from WWE TV for so long last year

Charlotte Flair returned to WWE TV on the December 30th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown when she pinned Ronda Rousey to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

“The Queen” had been away from WWE since last May when she dropped the SmackDown Women’s Title to Rousey at WrestleMania Backlash and took time off. Originally, she was only supposed to be gone for a few months as she was getting married to Andrade El Idolo that summer.

In October, Andrade stated Flair was away from WWE due to personal reasons. Earlier this month, Charlotte’s father, Ric Flair, revealed she was away due to a major dental issue.

While speaking to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, the top WWE star stated that she had dental issues and needed to get it taken care of.

The article noted that after the honeymoon, she had multiple dental procedures. While healing, she couldn’t take the risk of being hit in the face for weeks at a time. The article confirmed she was originally supposed to be back for SummerSlam in late July, but needing one more procedure done delayed the return.

“I had to,” Charlotte Flair said. “I didn’t have a choice but to take care of these issues.”

The SmackDown Women’s Champion is not currently slated to wrestle at Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble.
