Mercedes Mone-AEW Rumor Killer

Rumors surrounding Mercedes Mone potentially wielding “creative control” over her match outcomes have circulated since her impactful debut in AEW. Speculation often arises following her victories, suggesting she has a say in her creative to ensure she wins.

However, a new report from Fightful Select strongly refutes these claims. The report acknowledges the recurring narrative that “whenever Mercedes Mone gets a win, there are unfounded claims of her exercising creative control to make sure she wins those matches.” Fightful states, “That isn’t the case.”

According to their report, sources within AEW and NJPW denied that type of thing ever happened, and said they’ve never heard of her having creative control. Explaining why Mone hasn’t suffered any losses yet in AEW, a source familiar with both companies told Fightful it’s simply down to booking strategy, not contractual demands.

“She hasn’t turned down losing, because losing hasn’t even been broached. Both companies had plans to push her heavily,” the source stated. Sources suggested “any perception of Mercedes having creative control [might] be largely in character.”
