AEW announced that Hulu Japan will begin streaming its programming this fall.
The company announced the deal on X on Tuesday. “We’re excited to announce that starting this fall, Hulu Japan will be streaming All Elite Wrestling,” the post read. “Get ready for AEW each week as Hulu Japan will offer #AEWDynamite, #AEWCollision, and #AEW PPV events. The next chapter for AEW continues on Hulu Japan!” No start date was given.
Hulu Japan is not connected to the Hulu service in the United States. It launched in 2011 as the American Hulu’s first and only international expansion, and Nippon Television bought it in 2014. The service now operates as HJ Holdings, a subsidiary of Nippon TV Holdings, and is unrelated to the Disney-owned Hulu.
The deal fills a gap AEW has carried since the summer. New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced in June that AEW programming would leave NJPW World, where Dynamite and Collision had streamed since April 2022 at no additional cost to subscribers. New episodes stopped being added after the June 24 Dynamite and the June 27 Collision, and the archive of Dynamite, Collision, Rampage, Battle of the Belts and AEW specials came down when the contract expired on August 31. Forbidden Door pay-per-views remained available for purchase.
NJPW directed Japanese fans toward MyAEW, the company’s own international streaming service, in its announcement.
The NJPW World exit followed a change in ownership. Bushiroad sold its shares in New Japan Pro-Wrestling to TV Asahi and CyberAgent, which already owns Pro Wrestling NOAH, Tokyo Joshi Pro and DDT. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the removal of AEW content was tied to Bushiroad’s portfolio priorities rather than a breakdown between AEW and New Japan. The two companies ran Forbidden Door together in June.
