AEW is planning to bring back former women’s champion soon

Riho hasn’t worked a match in AEW since March 18th when she competed in a fatal 4-way match along with Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, and Penelope Ford.

The former AEW Women’s Champion had been working for Stardom, but she recently finished up with the promotion.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW is currently working on bringing Riho back and she could be back as early as February.

AEW does face the challenge of Riho traveling back and forth from the United States and Japan. If Riho leaves Japan then she would have to be in quarantine for two weeks and then another two weeks to get back to Japan.

Meltzer added, “It makes sense her return would be for the women’s tournament.” Of course, this tournament will crown a new #1 contender for the AEW Women’s Title that is slated to start soon.

Riho beat Nyla Rose to become the AEW Women’s Champion on the premiere episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT in October 2019.
