AEW star Ric Flair took to social media to react to the news about Ric Flair no longer being with WWE. As previously noted, Flair requested to be let out of his WWE contract and the request was granted. Several months ago, Flair had expressed unhappiness over the creative direction for him and he had not been used much in months.
On Instagram, Sting posted a 1990s photo of himself with Flair and on Twitter, he posted a GIF of a match he had with Flair in the ’80s. Both posts had this caption: “WOOOO!!!”
Sting and Flair’s rivalry dates back to the late ’80s in Jim Crocket Promotions. They would sometimes fight on the same side, inducing a brief stint where Sting was a Horsemen. Most of the time they were on opposite sides and their rivalry continued through the ’90s in WCW until the final Monday Nitro in 2001. They resumed their rivalry again in the early 2010s when they both worked for TNA Wrestling.
Although Flair’s days in the ring are over, there is an opportunity to have them work together in AEW on the microphone.
While it’s not confirmed that Flair is going to AEW, it should be noted that Flair was seen with Jim Ross last week in Jacksonville and Charlotte and Flair has known Tony Khan for years.
