AEW World Champion MJF has been pulled from this weekend’s Beyond Wrestling event after suffering a hyperextended knee during his title defense on the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Beyond Wrestling announced the news on X on Thursday morning, saying MJF is not medically cleared to travel or compete. “Unfortunately MJF hyperextended his knee during his match last night and is not medically cleared to travel or compete,” the promotion wrote. “He will not be in Cranston tomorrow night but assured me he will wrestle for Beyond Wrestling as soon as his schedule allows. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
MJF had been scheduled to face Bobby Orlando at Beyond Wrestling’s Break The Walls Down event in Cranston, Rhode Island, on Friday, June 5. The promotion said it is working on a replacement for the card. Per the announcement, MJF told promoter Drew Cordeiro he intends to compete for Beyond Wrestling once his schedule allows.
The injury was suffered the previous night on Dynamite, where MJF retained the AEW World Championship against Rush in a No Countout match, forcing Rush to submit. MJF walked away with the title but appears to have picked up the knee issue in the process.
MJF has a lengthy history of working through and returning from injuries, including a meniscus tear and fractured elbow during his independent run and a torn labrum in 2023 that sidelined him for several months.
The timing is notable for AEW, with the company’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event scheduled for later in June and multiple challengers, including Andrade, having publicly called for a shot at MJF’s championship.
Unfortunately @The_MJF hyperextended his knee during his match last night & is not medically cleared to travel or compete. He will not be in Cranston tomorrow night but assured me he will wrestle for Beyond Wrestling as soon as his schedule allows. We wish him a speedy recovery.
