LA Knight told Chris Van Vliet that his current lack of direction in WWE is the reason his crowd reactions are not as loud as they were at their peak, describing himself as “a man without a country” at the moment.
Knight said that while the reactions remain strong, he is aware they have dipped from their 2023 height. “Last night I still circle around, and they still chant the name. The reason it’s not as big as it was is because right now I’m just kind of a man without a country. I don’t have a set trajectory at this moment.” He contrasted that with the previous summer, when he was in a title program with Seth Rollins and The Vision. “There was renewed again. It’s a matter of just making sure I’ve got direction, somewhere to go.”
Knight said sustained momentum requires a feud fans can invest in. “I’ve got to have somewhere that people care about, something that people can sink their teeth into that takes it up from an eight to a 10 and beyond.” He expressed surprise that his run has lasted as long as it has, recalling that many people expected it to be a passing fad. “Here we are in 2026. A lot of people were leaning on the idea that it was going to be a flavor of the month.”
Knight pushed back on comparisons to stars like Steve Austin and Daniel Bryan, noting that those performers had already held titles before reaching their peak. “All these guys, by the time they got hot, they had had big victories, big pushes, titles. What was I doing? I was middle to bottom of the card, getting beat every week, but I had 30 seconds to talk.” He pointed to becoming a top merchandise seller and a Money in the Bank favorite as proof. “The machine had to get behind me. You want to talk about undeniable, that was me.”
Knight said he is not worried about the reaction fading entirely, but has a plan if it does. “If the reaction goes down, I’m going to bring it back up, even if I’ve got to take it in a different direction. I’m going to make you say something, whether it’s negative or positive.”
