Backstage News On MJF’s AEW Status

MJF’s loss of the AEW World Championship to Darby Allin last week has not diminished his standing within the company, and he remains a central part of AEW’s plans going forward.

According to Fightful Select, people within the company have been very happy with MJF’s media appearances following his title loss. The report from Self Made PW indicating MJF is factored into next month’s AEW Double or Nothing has been confirmed as accurate, and he is also being built into AEW creative well into the summer months.

MJF wasted no time making his presence felt on the April 22 episode of Dynamite in Portland, storming to the ring at the top of the show to contest the circumstances of his loss. He was interrupted by TNT Champion Kevin Knight, and the exchange quickly escalated into a match challenge.

MJF called Allin a cheat and insisted his shoulders were not down for the count that ended his reign. He declared himself the best wrestler in the world and demanded Allin return to the ring to give him back his championship. Knight responded by pointing out he had a visual pin on MJF weeks ago and suggested he should already be holding two titles.

MJF dismissed Knight’s promo skills and his friendship with Speedball Mike Bailey before calling Knight a good hand with a ceiling who would never be AEW World Champion. Knight challenged MJF to back up his words, and MJF agreed to a TNT Championship match on the spot if Knight was willing to put the title on the line. Knight accepted immediately, bringing referee Bryce Remsberg to the ring, but MJF backed off up the ramp before the bell could ring, declaring that Knight would dance with the devil next week instead.
